These days and with the use of Internet I have become aware of a growing number of large size role model's pages where i can rejoice and identify with the lives and feats of these beautiful bounties, whom, despite of repeated negative messages about their plus size, held fast to a firm belief in themselves an succeeded in fields like film, dance and fashion industry that was only reserved for the mainstream very thin and very tall unachievable to the majority. Even with this new addition and with challenges such as the size zero veto of Madrid's catwalk, when i look at most fashion mags and despite the horror stories and the devastation of bulimia/anorexia, most fashion magazines still glamorizing the slim figure and making the dychotomy Thin girl=good girl, Fat girl=bad girl. This encourages a division among women that leaves us deprived of sisterhood and camaraderie. It is important for large women determined to love themselves to look at pictures and movies with plus size women depicted as sexy, beautiful, intelligent and sometimes as the heroins of the story. More important even is to respect and accept each other whatever size they may be, for resenting your size ten friend for being thin is not going to resolve the obsession of designers with size zero models, nor the multi billion slimming industry. A rather positive approach to this is to keep asking manufacturers and retailers do they do size plus clothes. Write or email them with your queries and perhaps ask your thin friends to join you in this campaign for equality rather than shaming and berating you for not fitting the limited options available.
